E.GUIGAL

In 1946, Etienne Guigal acquired an estate in Côte-Rôtie and began to produce wine. He invested in the development of his land, and it was his son, Marcel Guigal, who took over the reins of the company in 1961. Marcel continues his father’s work, continuing to develop his land and winemaking techniques. E. Guigal began to make a name for itself and in the 80’s bought the Vidal Fleury establishment, then in 1995 the Château d’Ampuis, which is today the company’s head office. Three years later, in 1998, Marcel’s son Philippe, a graduate in oenology, joined the E.Guigal company. In 2001, the house bought the Jean Louis Grippart estate and the Vallouit estate; then in 2006, the Bonsérine estate.

E.Guigal is mainly known for its wines from the Côte-Rôtie estate. It is divided into two parts: the Côte Brune which is upstream from the Reynard stream and the Côte Blonde, downstream from the Reynard stream. Four prestigious wines come from the Côte-Rôtie estate: Mouline, Turque, Landonne and Château d’Ampuis.  The ‘Mouline’ is a wine from the Côte Blonde and is a blend of Syrah (red) and Viognier (white); the ‘Turque’ and the ‘Landonne’ are wines from the Côte Brune and are made from Syrah (red) and finally the ‘Château d’Ampuis’ is a very prestigious wine from the Côte Brune and is made from Syrah (red).

Of course, E.Guigal wines are not limited to the Côte-Rôtie area: Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf du Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Gigondras, Tavel and Côte du Rhône are also produced by the house. E.Guigal raises its vines with respect for the environment and uses chemical products in a reasoned manner against insects and diseases that can affect the vines.

It is regularly possible to find wines from the E.Guigal estate during our Wine & Spirits sales.
