Among the sealed boxes (also known as displays) of the very first Pokémon generations, the 1st edition of the Base Set is the most iconic. If we were to imagine a time machine and press the “year 1999” button, the opportunity to own one of these boxes would be priceless. During the first sale for the opening of our Collectible Card department, the French version sold for a price close to 50,000 euros, and there is no doubt that the rarity of these boxes makes them a coveted investment. In Europe, the sale of a first edition Base Set box is rare to the extent that this result establishes it as a market price. Internationally, the effect is the same, whether it’s the even more sought-after English version or the less demanded but still prestigious German version.

Old displays, both for Pokémon and Magic The Gathering, and even Yu-Gi-Oh!, are highly sought after by collectors. The opportunity to have pristine pieces, almost impossible to find now, in various languages, including Japanese, which is increasingly popular, especially in the Pokémon community, has become a true global treasure hunt.
