Alix Aymé

Alix Aymé was born in 1894 in Marseille. She was a pupil of George Desvallières and then Maurice Denis, with whom she maintained a close correspondence throughout her career. The artist developed a passion for the Asian continent during a first trip where she accompanied her husband, a professor, who was sent to China by the French government. She travelled through Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam for more than twenty years. Appointed professor at the Hanoi School of Fine Arts, she contributes with Joseph Inguimberty to the return of lacquer. Her works are the meeting point between the Nabis style and traditional Vietnamese painting, for which she is very fond. Traditional Indochinese subjects blend with Western modernity to create a symbiosis as perfect as it is sublime. She who liked the subjects touching the intimacy of her models (interior scenes, maternity wards, children at their games…). Her works of art are sought after, and achieve very beautiful prices during our auctions organized by our experts.
