ROLEX, a house known to all, is today a reference in the world of luxury watchmaking. Created in 1908 by Hans Wilsdorf, ROLEX immediately stood out from other watchmaking companies. Indeed, if at the time the watches in fashion were rather pocket watches because they were more precise, Hans Wilsdorf wanted to develop wristwatches that could rival the precision of pocket watches.
Ten years later, ROLEX made a name for itself in watchmaking circles thanks to the chronometric precision of its models and therefore decided in 1919 to settle in Geneva, the world capital of watchmaking. The 1920s were marked by the invention of the Oyster case, the first water-resistant case. In the 1930s, ROLEX invented the Perpetual rotor movement, which marked the beginning of automatic watches for ROLEX. In 1956, the company decided to create the first watch displaying the day of the week on the dial: the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date. In constant evolution, ROLEX continues to invent increasingly prestigious models and more and more elaborate techniques. More recently, in 2015, at Baselworld, ROLEX presented a new movement technique: the calibre 3255.
