Silverware & Curiosities

With a growing number of sales, the Silverware and Curiosities department is expanding.

Emerging in Europe during the Renaissance, the cabinet of curiosities was a space where collected objects were amassed and displayed, reflecting a taste for the eclectic and the unusual. Echoing this universe, our sales titled “Le Cabinet d’Amateur” feature a curated selection of numismatics, silverware, and curiosities.

These sales include numerous high-quality silverware pieces from all periods and styles of French and European silversmithing history. Goblets, cutlery sets, candlesticks, 18th-century wine tasters, coolers… These decorative arts items bear the hallmark and/or signature of the greatest master silversmiths, such as Puiforcat, Christofle, Ercuis, Telge, Duguay, Falize, Auguste, Fannière, Odiot, Thomas-Germain, Duvivier, Roëttiers, Froment-Meurice, Cahier, Besnier, Van Cauwenbergh, Biennais, Ballin, Fabergé, Ovchinnikov, Aucoc…

Let us not forget that silverware also includes Ottoman and Russian productions, such as this beautiful and important icon of Christ Pantocrator with its magnificent enameled silver riza, which drew competitive bidding and sold for around €16,500.

Numismatics also shone with impressive results, particularly during the auction of a Lyonnais collection of approximately 144 gold coins ranging from the 2nd to the 20th century. The collection exceeded its high estimate, achieving a total hammer price of €83,200.

Curiosities sales aim to recreate the world of a connoisseur’s cabinet through various themes, such as science and technology, but also leisure items. A rare set of hand screens made of printed papier-mâché from the 18th century changed hands for €14,000.
