Gabrielle Chanel was born in 1883 in Saumur into a modest family. Orphaned at the age of 12, she later decided to move to the city to try her luck. She quickly seduced “Boy”, a rich soldier who helped her to start a milliner’s workshop. In 1910 she opened her first hat shop at 21 rue Cambon.
Gabrielle Chanel, who is called “Coco Chanel” by everyone, meets success. In 1913 she opened a shop in Deauville with more sportswear and democratized her vision of fashion, unconventional for the time. The First World War broke out, so Gabrielle Chanel took refuge in Biaritz because she was spared. She will open a shop which will also be successful. After the war, in 1921 Gabrielle Chanel created her first perfume for women, Chanel n°5, a true icon of the brand. Another icon, but fashionable this time, the little black dress. Gabrielle Chanel created in 1926 the little black dress, simple, elegant and fluid, far from the corsets and trends of the time. Afterwards, Gabrielle Chanel continued to create in an unconventional way, for example in 1928 after a trip to Scotland she created a collection with Tweed.
