Jacques Majorelle

Jacques Majorelle is a painter from Lorraine born in 1886, son of the cabinetmaker Louis Majorelle. He trained as an architect-decorator and then let himself be seduced by painting, a passion for which he moved to Paris. The artist travels a lot in North Africa, especially in Egypt and Morocco. It is love at first sight. The light and the exceptional colours of these regions fascinate him. He moves definitively to Morocco around 1919.

The artist is known for his splendid orientalist paintings, inspired by the traditions and daily life of North African countries. He continues to travel extensively, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa from the end of the Second World War, which will be a new source of inspiration for him.
