Edouard Léon Cortes

Edouard Léon Cortès, himself the son of a painter and grandson of a craftsman, was born in 1882 in Lagny sur Marne. Following in the footsteps of his father, a popular painter at the Spanish court, he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts at the age of 17. Barely twenty years old, he exhibited at the 1902 Salon and was a great success thanks to a view of the streets of Paris at night. Recognized by his peers, admired by collectors and amateurs, he never ceased to try to capture and share the unique atmosphere of Paris. In a very impressionistic logic, it is the light and the changes it brings about that interest him. Indeed, his immense talent lies in the way he makes his paintings shine from the inside. Her favourite subjects are the Parisian landscapes. He makes himself the spectator of the modernity of the city and its daily life while managing to poetize it by highlighting the beauty of this city that is transforming itself. Cortes still enjoys commercial success today, as his works are sold at high prices at auctions.
